Hikes and places for outings

Hike through various plant zones, to the Stuormuorkkegårttje waterfalls, discover the Áhusgårsså ravine.

About the activity

Hike through various plant zones

Hike through various plant zones, from the primeval forest up to the alpine heath. When you begin to gain elevation, you get a magical view of Stuor Muorkke, the Giergav mountains and Lake Láŋas. The path passes through one of Europe’s oldest pine forests. Continue up to the summit of Nieras, 1,490 metres above sea level.

Hike to the waterfall

You can make your way to the Stuormuorkkegårttje waterfalls from the road or from the south side of the lake. The hike is unbelievably beautiful, but the path is rocky and not recommended for inexperienced hikers. The falls is just a shadow of what it used to be, but it still is magnificent.

The Áhusgårsså ravine

A cliff ravine a ways from Kungsleden (the King’s Trail). The ravine was formed when the inland ice sheet melted and water tumbled down from the falls. A fine day trip. On the way you will pass several pitfalls located right next to the trail.

Sjöfallsudden

The point west of Sjöfallshotellet was once a campsite. Now the campsites are gone, but the point is a fantastic excursion place for families with children or others who do not want to walk a long distance but still want to experience Stuor Muorkke. In the area there are heat-shattered stones and an outcrop of Sjöfall quartzite in plain sight. If you look across the water, you will see the holy island of Jábmeksuolu and the waterfall that rushes out into Lake Láŋas.
